Career Center for UK Healthcare

All UK HealthCare nurses, nurse leaders, nursing care technicians (NCTs), UK College of Nursing students, and other UK HealthCare employees have access to the career center. We provide support at all stages of a career. Services at Career Centersprivate, one-on-one career exploration and guidance. Review and production of curriculum vitae and resumes. Writing cover letters under scrutiny. Interview techniques and interview preparation. Examination of available educational opportunities, such as graduate programs, degree completion, and others.

Previously known as the UK Nursing Career Center, it has assisted numerous nurses, nursing care technicians, and staff members in advancing their careers in the medical field since 2011. Taking advantage of this success, the program has grown to provide a wide range of career services to all healthcare professionals, including respiratory, occupational, and physical therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, pharmacy, radiologic technology, and laboratory sciences.

On Mondays from 11 a.m. to noon, there are group sessions for creating resumes and cover letters. To the group meeting, bring a draft of your most recent résumé and cover letter. You can get your questions addressed and walk away with a resume-editing worksheet to use in your upcoming job search. Along with how to create a tailored CV for several specialty nursing professions, such as pediatrics, emergency departments, intensive care units, or oncology, this information will also cover out-of-state job searches. Sessions on group interviewing techniques are held every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon. Interview etiquette, dressing for success, preparing for behavioral-based interview questions, questions to ask a patient care manager, and much more will be covered.

Summer nursing programs for students (After the Junior Year)

Programs for BSN students between their junior and senior years that are scheduled and typically run 6 to 10 weeks are known as summer student nurse programs. Along with monetary recompense, the experience might be eligible for academic credit. Most summer programs are more generic, allowing you to gain experience in a variety of nursing settings, while some may have a focus (such as pediatrics, critical care, etc.). Because summer programs frequently result in employment as a nursing care technician, which may lead to a full-time RN position after graduation, they frequently assist students clarify their future nursing career ambitions. Summer nursing programs for students are frequently competitive. In addition to submitting applications to summer nurse externship programs, it is advised that you do a job search for employment over the summer or prepare to keep up any existing student nurse roles. The terms "summer nurse externship" and "nurse internship," as well as "nurse academic practicum" and "nursing student fellows program," are all used to describe this employment. Writing a professional cover letter, CV, and submitting the required number of recommendation letters are all required when applying for summer student nurse programs. Although many Academic Medical Centers, such UK HealthCare, Indiana University Health, University of Louisville Hospitals, etc., do offer nurse externships, the bulk of hospitals in the nation do not. As nursing care technicians, nurse's aides, nursing assistants, etc., other hospitals employ nursing students. Starting in the externship is a chance to establish contacts that may result in a full-time position after graduation for many hospitals offering nurse externship programs. Each hospital has its own deadlines, with the majority of applications for summer programs due in the middle of the winter quarter.

The residency program, the only one in the state and one of the few in the nation to be approved by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, is just one of the many opportunities for continuing education that UK HealthCare and the College of Nursing provide (CCNE). Fair Education

It has been decided to postpone the UK HealthCare Nursing and Health Sciences Education Fair until the fall of 2022. When new information becomes available, it will be posted. D., BS completion, OT, PT, Radiologic Technology, and more. 

Workshops over lunch

The UK HealthCare Career Center conducts a variety of career planning workshops and speakers who present educational programs and career-related information throughout the academic year. With time for questions, the sessions normally last 30-45 minutes. Drinks and lunch are frequently free. Registration is strongly advised.
